LGBTIQ Inclusive Practice for Family Violence Services Training
This training assists specialist family violence services support LGBTIQ people who are experiencing intimate partner and family violence.
Introduction
Developed in collaboration with Family Safety Victoria and through consultation with leading professionals in family violence and LGBTIQ services, this program offers four and six-hour sessions which help professionals working in family violence services so that they can better support LGBTIQ people experiencing intimate partner and family violence.
Who's it for?
This training program is designed for mixed groups of staff working in family violence services.
It’s recommended that people from all areas in an organisation receive at least the four-hour training. The six-hour session allows additional time to engage with LGBTIQ inclusive practice principles and learn tools to apply these to create lasting cultural change in the workplace.
Syllabus
An introduction to LGBTIQ family violence
The four-hour session teaches participants about inclusive behaviours and ways of working so they can apply these within their personal work practices and organisations.
Participants will:
- Look at frameworks for understanding sex, gender and sexuality
- Explore research into LGBTIQ health and well being, with a focus on intimate partner and family violence
- Learn framework that promote LGBTIQ inclusion within domestic and family violence prevention and intervention practices
- Begin to analyse their current work practice and the ways their organisation and sector can better facilitate LGBTIQ inclusion
- Begin to identify and apply strategies to improve services and outcomes for LGBTIQ people, through individual work practices and organisational and sector change
The Dark Side of the Rainbow - working with LGBTIQ Family Violence
This full day training incorporates additional content and skills that family violence professionals can apply to their individual work practices and embed in their organisations.
Participants will:
- Look at frameworks for understanding sex, gender and sexuality
- Explore research into LGBTIQ health and well being, with a focus on intimate partner and family violence
- Learn framework that promote LGBTIQ inclusion within domestic and family violence prevention and intervention practices
- Practice analysing their current work practices and the ways their organisation and sector can better facilitate LGBTIQ inclusion
- Practice identifying and applying tools and strategies to improve services and outcomes for LGBTIQ people through individual work practices and organisational and sector change.
