Introduction

We know that the experiences of Rainbow Mob and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) that support them are unique. To ensure that we are able to best support Rainbow Mob and ACCOs, we will be running a version of our How2 training that is exclusive for ACCOs, and speaks to the ways of working inside ACCOs as well as the needs of Rainbow Mob when accessing their services.

RHA and VACCHO have partnered to develop a best practice model for Rainbow Mob inclusion in ACCOs: Rainbow Mob are My Mob, along with a range of resources that support ACCOs to continue to build on inclusion initiatives in their organisations. The How2 for ACCOs stream will support organisations to apply the relevant tools and resources to create a whole of organisation strategy for the inclusion of Rainbow Mob.

Who's it for?

The How2 for ACCOs stream is available to:

  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) that provide health and/or community services
  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCOs) that are a peak body for health and/or community services

Registration and cost

The How2 Program for ACCOs is free for Victorian ACCOs interested in achieving Rainbow Tick accreditation, and who meet the eligibility requirements. So we can ascertain your eligibility, please complete our Expression of Interest Form here.

If you're an ACCO based outside of Victoria, please add a comment when you complete the Expression of Interest Form with the number of attendees you'd like to send. We can then provide you with a quote for that number of How2 places.

Organisations can send between 2 to 6 staff.

If you’d like to discuss the ACCO stream and it’s suitability to your organisation, please contact the RHA LGBTIQ First Nations Senior Project Coordinator Dan Powell at how2_program@latrobe.edu.au

What is the How2 Program?

How2 is a 7-week program which provides the knowledge, skills and tools required for health and community services to develop a whole-of-organisation LGBTIQA+ strategy.

The time commitment to complete this program is a minimum of three hours per week over six months, with additional time needed for implementation of the plan from the whole of organisation.

Participants will be supported to develop an implementation plan for LGBTIQA+ inclusion for their organisation, and receive detailed guidebooks and other materials to guide this work.

The program is comprised of:

  • Two self-paced online modules (approx. 2 hrs each)
  • A one-day, online workshop facilitated via Zoom (6 hrs)
  • Four half-day workshops, facilitated via Zoom (3 hrs each)
  • A private mentoring session (1 hr)

Participants will then have access to communities of practice for support in further embedding LGBTIQA+ affirmative practice into their organisations.

More information about our signature program can be found on our How2 website.
You can also reach out with your questions to the How2 team at how2_program@latrobe.edu.au

Which staff should participate?

Staff to consider sending include:

  • Those who can make or influence decisions about your services and practices.
  • Those with an understanding of/responsibility for driving change across different aspects of the organisation, including human resources, systems and policies.
  • LGBTIQA+ champions of change.

We note that the last group can be very effective participants, but participation should not be left to them alone.
Please also note that while we take a trauma-informed learning approach, the course content can still be challenging as it engages with homophobia, transphobia, heterosexism, transmisogyny and sexism. Please inform participants of this and provide appropriate supports.

Past Participants

“So far this training has been some of the best I’ve ever attended. The content is thorough, resources are brilliant, there’s a clear logic and ideas relate strategically to each other. It’s really brilliant and I’m very grateful for how much time and energy your team has put into creating/delivering such a quality piece of training”

— Participant feedback, How2 Standard stream, 2024

“By participating in RHA’s ACCO How2 stream, I was able to better understand what was required for our organisation to go for Rainbow Tick. The sessions gave practical advice about the change process in a way that felt relevant to our organisation. Having a room of just ACCO staff meant that we could discuss our challenges and successes in a space that felt supportive and understanding. I’d recommend the How2 ACCO program to other ACCO staff working towards Rainbow Tick.”

— Former ACCO stream participant 2025

“You’ve managed to deliver complex content remotely in a way that was engaging and informative. I appreciate all the planning that has gone into the sessions and the extra ways you have made the sessions interactive, such as the polls and break out rooms. Thank you also for all the extra resources and links you provide throughout the sessions”
